Gothic Fusion Belly dancing

Gothic, Industrial, and other experimetal forms of belly dance

Gothic Fusion belly dance - All Levels

What do Goths & Belly Dancers have in common? More than you would think. We both love sparkly things, have a flare for the theatrical, and love experiencing a myriad of emotions through music & dance.

Join us in our journey to explore the your strong, agressive, dark & expressive side in this Gothic Belly Dance Fusion Course.

We will use cool, dark & cutting edge belly dance fusion music, blending it with modern Gothic, Industrial club and post punk/new wave sounds. We will fuse several different styles of Gothic and Industrial dancing w/ a foundation in traditional belly dancing & throw some fab tribal fusion moves into the mix. You'll love it! Come and walk with us on the Dark Side of Belly Dance.

History and Background Information on Gothic Belly Dance

Gothic belly dance inherits many moves from Tribal belly dance and cabaret style belly dance, danced to modern "dark" music (i.e. Dead can dance, Cure, Sisters of Mercy, but also to middle age like music such as Corvus Corax etc.). Well known gothic belly dancers are Tempest and Sashi

Costuming tends to include a lot of black, red, or purple; Fabrics center on lace, velvet, and satin, but also vinyl and leather are part of the costumes. Dark and overemphasized eye makeup and over-the-top hair are sure signs of gothic belly dancers.

Since the gothic movement predates tribal dance, it is incorrect to say that gothic belly dance comes from tribal belly dance. It is further not necessary to be a goth nor a tribal dancer to dance this style of dance, but one is encouraged to learn about both forms to be able to apply their philosophy to this exciting form of dance.

Attire: Melodia or yoga pants (also available at studio), otherwise loose workout clothes, thick socks w/rubber feet or ballet slippers for footwear.
